Muslim Rebels Massacre CAR Church Refugees

Muslim rebels stormed a Catholic church in the Central African Republic, Wednesday, killing up to 30 people.

The attackers used guns and grenades on hundreds of civilians who had sought refuge at the Church of Fatima in Bangui.

"We were in the church when were heard the shooting outside," Rev. Freddy Mboula told The Associated Press. "There were screams and after 30 minutes of gunfire there were bodies everywhere."

Violence has wrecked the capital city in the five months since a Muslim coalition was ousted from power.

Muslim rebels retaliated by attacking Christians, leading some believers to form a militia and fight back.

Both Muslims and Christians have found sanctuary in the city's churches.

To date, the crisis in Central African Republic has forced nearly 1 million people from their homes.
