The external affairs minister for India says a Catholic priest held hostage by Islamic extremists in Yemen is still alive.

Several Christian media outlets had erroneously reported that Father Tom Uzhunnalil had been crucified.

But New Delhi TV reports he is alive, and the Indian government is working for his release.

In addition, India's IBB-CNN News reports the Indian government received a ransom video that shows the kidnapped priest alive.

Father Tom was taken captive in early March by Muslim extremists who attacked a Catholic retirement home in South Yemen.

They killed 15 people in that attack, including four nuns.
