A Widow’s Plea for Water

CBN.com —High-up in the mountains of China, there’s an almost hidden village known as Hong Wee. Only 100 families live here. Mrs. Jong is a 71-year-old widow. Since her husband died, she’s had to walk four hours round trip every day to get water for herself, her animals, and her crops.
She proclaims, “I have to do it, or I will not have clean water. The water in the streams is polluted. I know first-hand because I’ve gotten sick from drinking it!
The mountain roads to the closest well are rough. “I get faint in the heat,” says Mrs. Zhang. “And in the winter, my hands freeze. I remember one day I fell down. I could not even stand up because my back and my leg hurt so badly.”
Often by the time Mrs. Zhang got to the well, the water would almost be gone, and she’d return home with only a bucket-full. So her crops began to fail, and she had to give up eight of her 10 pigs.
“I prayed to the almighty Lord, ‘Please help me, you hold my hands so I won’t fall.’ Mrs. Zhang cries. “And I prayed to the Lord for water.”
Mrs. Zhang’s prayer was answered when CBN heard about the problems in Hong Wee. We built cisterns throughout the village and made sure Mrs. Zhang got one. It fills-up when it rains, so the water lasts through the dry season. She laughs for joy, “I am so happy about this new cistern. Now I don’t have to go fetch water every day!!!”
Today, Mrs. Zhang has plenty of clean water year-round for herself, her crops, and her animals.
The widow concludes, “It is amazing The Lord did not leave me alone. He sent you to help me. And I know that it’s because of the love of Jesus. You have given me a well of living water, overflowing with joy and hope!”
