CBN.com —Like most four year olds, Chai Yu Han asks his mother lots of questions.

Mrs. Chai shares some, “’Why do birds fly?  Why is the flower red?’ But I don’t mind.  I just love to hear his voice.”

There was a time Yu Han couldn’t speak or hear. When he was one, he was given some medication to treat a severe fever. And that permanently damaged his hearing.

“He always laughed a lot before,” says Mr. Chai. “But now he would not even smile.  And when I clapped my hands, he did not respond.”

Mrs. Chai adds with frustration, “I could not believe it!  My baby was deaf!”

Yu Han’s sister was especially troubled by her brother’s problem. “The other kids joked about my brother not being able to hear.” She says with tears rolling down her little face, “It was so hard to watch.   I cried.”

The Chais spent their whole life savings to help their son.   They bought Yu Han a used hearing aid and sent him to speech therapy.  But after a few months, the second hand hearing aid fell apart.

“I know my son was relying on me,” Mr. Chai recalls.  “I was so worried about his future, so I worked very hard to pay for repairs on the hearing aid.  But it was not long before it totally broke.”

“We did not have any more money to buy a new one,” adds Mrs. Chai. “And by the time we saved up, I know Yu Han would be too old, and it would be too late. My boy would live in a world without sound forever.”

Then Yu Han was introduced to CBN.  We made sure he got the best hearing aids possible.  And we paid for his final year in language school.  Soon, he’ll be able to enter kindergarten with the other children his age.

Yu Han’s sister is thrilled and declares, “My brother is talking a lot now and using more and more words all the time. When he says, ‘I love you, sister,’ it makes me smile!”

Mr. Chai says, “Thank you for helping us in the most difficult time in our lives.”

Mrs. Chai concludes, “You have brought us all joy and hope. And you have given Yu Han a bright future.”
