DISASTER RELIEF

Aid for Rescue Workers After a Hospital Gas Explosion in Mexico City

MEXICO CITY, Mexico – A powerful gas explosion demolished much of a Mexico City maternity hospital last week.

Family members of victims were in a state of panic as rescue workers combed the rubble for survivors and the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals. Several infants were found alive and pulled from the rubble as responders searched through the massive amount of broken concrete and twisted metal.

"There are literally hundreds of volunteers working non-stop trying to clear the rubble," said Scott Hill, Operation Blessing's Latin America director and Mexico City resident.

OB Mexico was soon on the scene, setting up a mobile kitchen to aid the relief workers. Teams served thousands of meals to rescue workers, doctors and other first responders throughout the day and into the night as crews continued to search through the debris.
