Children Caught in the Crossfire in Ukraine
UKRAINE – Irina waited in fear for two weeks after her daughter disappeared from their city of Donetsk, Ukraine, before she heard the terrible news—her daughter had been found dead, shot multiple times. Her three young granddaughters, Laura, Diana and Veronica, were orphaned.
Irina and her sister gathered the little girls and the few things they could carry, and they fled the volatile and dangerous region that they had once called home. Today, they live in a building in Kiev that had once been part of an orphanage along with six other IDP (internally displaced persons) families—now refugees in their own nation.
Operation Blessing teams are providing essential supplies including food, baby formula, diapers and more to IDP families like Irina and her granddaughters as well as families currently living in bunkers and shelters, unable to flee the fighting.
