Help for Earthquake Victims in Napa
NAPA, California – It was a few minutes after 3 a.m. when Jean awoke to complete chaos in her quiet trailer park in Napa. The damage caused by a 6.0-magnitude earthquake and the fires that occurred soon after wreaked havoc on her little community, damaging several homes and burning others to the ground.
"It was terrible," said Jean, holding back tears.
The earthquake shook their homes so much that furniture and household items were thrown to the ground, covering floors with shattered glass and broken dishes.
The devastated trailer park is home to many elderly residents on limited incomes, and many don't have the physical ability to clean the mess or repair their own homes.
Soon, Operation Blessing arrived, helping residents clean up glass, move furniture back into place and salvage belongings.
One resident, Ann—a widow of 20 years—was extremely grateful to have volunteers help lift heavy furniture and clear out all the glass and broken dishes from her home.
"Thank you," she said. "I don't know how I could have done this all by myself."
Teams will continue to help residents of the community clean up and salvage their belongings as well as help local officials during the recovery process.
