Help for Earthquake Victims in Peru
MISCA, Peru - Operation Blessing teams are on the ground in the village of Misca, Peru, after a 5.1-magnitude earthquake crumbled houses and left families without access to basic necessities.
"We have nothing," said one earthquake victim. "We have been left with absolutely nothing."
Misca, a severely impoverished village constructed of simple adobe buildings, was one of the hardest hit communities. Every home sustained severe damage and all clean water access was destroyed. Families are living in tents as they salvage what they can of their belongings.
Operation Blessing is providing enough safe drinking water for all 45 families in the village as well as distributing PackH2O water backpacks so families have a sanitary way to carry and store water.
Meanwhile, teams are also helping children who lost all of their belongings by distributing new shoes and soccer balls in the village. "Among so much pain and distress, we wish to bring a little joy to children," OBI staff said.
As recovery efforts continue, Operation Blessing teams are looking at additional ways they can help the families of Misca and nearby villages.
