Helping Clean Up Van, Texas
VAN, Texas – Kenneth didn't hear the tornado sirens sounding in Van as the twister struck his community, but he received a warning call from his daughter.
He had only seconds to take shelter before the tornado hit.
"I closed my front door, ran in and jumped in my bathtub and prayed. I said, 'Here I come, Lord!'" Kenneth said.
Kenneth's entire house shook, and he heard large debris hitting his home, including the frame of his neighbor's garage door. He described the sound and intensity of the tornado to OBI staff: "The only thing I can equate it to is kinda like a vacuum cleaner. You could actually feel the pressure dropping."
After the storm, Kenneth was astounded by the damage the storm had done in mere seconds. He didn't know how to begin the clean-up process. When Kenneth came to Operation Blessing's base of operations in hopes of borrow a wheelbarrow, staff asked him what he needed and what they could do to help.
Immediately, OBI was able to send a volunteer work crew to help him clean up.
"The people turning out to help us has been amazing. I couldn't believe it." Kenneth said. "I appreciate y'alls help."
