CHINA OUTREACH
Daveed Gets a
New Smile
CBN.com
His is a story that every neglected or abused child would
love to call their own, a storybook ending where everyone lives happily
ever after.
Daveed was abandoned at birth and taken to an orphanage in China. Children
here are often abandoned--sometimes because of health problems, and
sometimes just because they are girls.
But Daveeds life was about to change when a young Frenchman named
Geeohm, who was working in Beijing, began teaching piano lessons at
the orphanage. One day little Daveed smiled at him. It was love at first
sight.
"I took him in my arms," recalls Geeohm, "and I asked myself, 'How
much could I change his life?'"
Geeohm and his wife, Delpheen, soon knew they wanted to adopt Daveed.
A little boy destined to grow up institutionalized had a mom and dad.
But why would a healthy, happy boy be abandoned in the first place,
in a culture that values sons? Because Daveed was born with a cleft
lip and palette. Delphine and Geeohm loved him anyway. But where would
this young family get the money to pay for his surgery? From CBN partners!
The CBN China staff arranged for a cleft lip surgery for Daveed.
While Terry Meeuwsen was in China, CBN helped again. CBN China has
teamed up with hospitals in Beijing to provide cleft lip and palette
surgeries for as little as $400. And Daveed was scheduled for cleft
palette surgery.
The palette surgery took two hours. Doctors were very pleased
with the palette repair. Geeohm was extremely relieved it was over.
Daveed has a few uncomfortable days ahead, but soon hell be as
good as new.
We stopped in to check on Daveed the next day. This little trooper
was already well on his way to recovery. Then it was time to go home.
