Lost in His Love a World Away

"I was born into a very strict Muslim family, says Endang. "Since I was a child, I was taught to read the Koran and to pray. I never missed my prayers five times a day. I also prayed special prayers in the middle of the night."

Endang grew up in a comfortable, yet strict Muslim home in Lampung, Indonesia. But years later, far from home, life took an abrupt turn. In 2001, Endang lost her job at a clothing export company after it went bankrupt. For months she looked for work. One by one, Endang had no other choice but to sell her essential belongings for food.

"Every night, because I needed work so desperately, I prayed midnight prayers," remembers Endang. "I even added time, praying from midnight to four oclock in the morning. Then after that I would do my dawn prayers. So I was seeking, but I kept thinking why doesnt Allah answer my prayers?

Then one day, a friend gave her a video with Christian worship music. One song focused on Psalm 23.

"Just by listening to the lyrics the lord is my shepherd I shall not want thats what made me think who really is God?" Endang says tearfully. If my god is the real one, why is life like this? If my god is real, why hasnt he laid me in a green pasture? Then I said, Jesus, if you really are God, you will help me."

That night Endang couldnt sleep. She got up and turned on the television. Solusi, Indonesias version of The 700 Club, was on.

"I watched the show," explains Endang. "There were testimonies, then at the end, Andreas, the host, said if there are people with problems, put your right hand on the television. I started to feel peace, even though I was thinking, If I become a Christian, what will my family do? But then I thought, it doesnt matter.

Early the next morning, Endang called the phone number she saw on Solusi. Thanks to gifts from CBN partners, she was able to talk to an Indonesian 700 Club phone counselor. It was then that Endang prayed to receive Jesus as her savior. Before hanging up, she requested one more prayer, a prayer for work. That very afternoon, to her amazement, call after call came in with different job offers. Endang could hardly wait to go to a church to praise the one, true God.

"There, I felt for the first time, what it was like to worship!" exclaims Endang, wiping away tears. "I felt the most amazing peace. There, I saw the poor and the rich all worshiping together. From the moment I accepted Jesus Christ, and ever since, Gods blessings have filled my life"
