Finding God's
Love in a Pot of Soup
CBN.com
Twelve-year-old Marina is surrounded
by people who love her and whats not to love! Bright and cheerful, this
young lady from Kiev, Ukraine loves school and her outlook for the future
is strong. But it was not always so.
Marina's troubles started long ago when her father
died.
Her mother and older brother began to abuse alcohol
and that left Marina to raise herself.
"My mother always invited some guests to her house
and they were always drunk," remembers Marina. "When my mother was drunk,
she didnt care about me. I slept with the dogs and cleaned up after the
dogs."
When it came time for Marinas mother to provide food
for her daughter, that was the toughest situation of all.
Explains Marina, "When she was drunk I would
cook something for myself if there was something in the apartment to
cook."
At one point, Marinas mother sent her to a soup
kitchen near their home. As it turned out, it was CBN's Bread of Life
program.
Soon, Marina came every time the doors were open.
"When I came to the soup kitchen, there were many
children," says Marina. "I met Natasha and I made friends with her. Sometimes
I would even stay in her house for the night."
But as important as food and friends were, Marina
received something more.
"When I went to the soup kitchen, they would
always tell me that Jesus loves me and he will never leave me," exclaims
Marina. "And I decided to pray to God and ask him to help me."
When CBN heard about Marinas desperate living
conditions, they knew just how to help. They invited her to come to
the Sunlight Christian Center, a comfortable place to call home.
"I like to be here because I have the food and
clothes I need," Marina points out. Here I have everything I need. I
know that I am loved and cared for. Here I dont have to listen to all
of the screams and shouts as I used to hear at home. Uncle Mark (CBN
Outreach Director) is a very nice person because he loves all of us.
And I am here thanks to him."
In fact, the people here have become mother, brothers
and sisters as Marina awaits the chance to be adopted by a loving Christian
Ukranian family.
"I am very glad that I am here now and I am thankful
to the people who helped to open this soup kitchen," says Marina. "It
really helped me to find the right way in my life. And I think that
many other people will also need such help, so that they would be able
to find the right way and to be with God."
