Alleviating the Cycle of Suffering

CBN.com Tribal villagers in India live a difficult life. Most of them are secluded from basic services like electricity, hospitals, transportation, or telephones that we enjoy everyday without a sense of gratitude.

One such tribal village is Gurzilla, a small village in the state of Maharashtra where about 300 families live a tough life. The village is situated in a remote area and is connected to other villages by narrow paths routed through the jungles.

Agriculture is the main source of income for these villagers. Some of them own land but most of them work on land owned by others as daily wage laborers. Among the landless families is Sri Ram, his wife, and two children. Sri Ram and his wife work as agricultural laborers, and both of their children both attend the government school in the village.

Sri Ram’s son, Santosh, had stopped going to school for almost 15 days. He was suffering from a high fever and was breathing with great difficulty. After being sick for one week, Sri Ram took Santosh to a doctor about 40 kilometers away. Sri Ram spent a great deal to pay for the doctor’s fee and medicines in hope that his son would recover.  But all his effort seemed to be in vain as Santosh continued to suffer.

SantoshSri Ram wanted to consult the doctor one more time, but now he didn’t have enough money to pay for the trip and to pay for the treatment. So he gave up his hope and just trusted in God.

Operation Blessing India, in its mission to alleviate the cycle of suffering, came to Gurzilla village. The village elders had made several requests inviting OB to come and help them. It wasn’t easy for a mobile medical van to reach the village because of the rough roads. Nevertheless, it did arrive. OB doctors and medical staff quickly set up the camp in the village.

Sri Ram was the happiest person that day. He was so pleased that finally a solution to his son’s illness had come to his doorstep. Santosh was examined and sent for an X-ray test. The reports revealed infection in his lungs. Santosh was suffering from bronchial pneumonia and there is a consolidation in the left lobe which could have lead to death. The OB doctor prescribed a course of antibiotics and multivitamins along with other medicines.

Dr. Vinay of OB said “Thank God, Operation Blessing could bring the X-ray machine to this remote village; we could clearly diagnose Santosh’s illness and could give him exact medicine. Now he will recover very soon”.

OB treated over 300 people that day.   Sri Ram and his wife were very happy. They thanked OB for such a great help.
