Life Assembly: A Buddy to Special Needs Children

CBN.com Many special needs children take part in Life Assembly’s Buddy Break, a respite program offered to families in the Mount Juliet, Tennessee community.

“Spending the time with the children is so rewarding. They’ve got so much to give, so much pure love and a hunger for God and for people to come into their life. They’re really used to being stiff-armed. So the response we get from the kids just ministers to me so much,” said Chris Price, director of the Buddy Break Ministry.

Once a month parents bring their children to this specialized event. Each child receives one-on-one care with a trained volunteer.

“We didn’t have to beat a drum to get volunteers. We didn’t have to convince people that this needed to happen. It’s just been amazing to see God shine a light on an area that needed help and then be able to watch God’s people jump at it and get their hands dirty and have a blast,” Chris said.

This Outreach enables parents to have a much needed rest while their children enjoy a safe place. And the benefits of the program reach beyond an outward need.

“They don’t just need someone to help them with their physical needs. They also need someone to build relationship with them, to love on them, to help hold their hand and help them to learn about their Savior. A lot of times we over look that, when someone is in front of us who has different needs than we do,” Chris said.

“They’re in our backyard. The numbers are staggering,” said Senior Pastor Andrew Wharton. “And if you research it, we have 14,000 that live within just miles of our church. And how can you not reach them?”

For extending your arms to children with special needs, The 700 Club salutes Life Assembly of Mount Juliet, Tennessee – America’s Church of the Week!
