CBN.com For many Americans, life moves at a pretty fast pace. If you want to go to church, just jump in your car, take a bus, or take a subway. But not if you live here: in the remote villages of Alaska, where getting to church isn’t so easy. That’s why Anchorage Native New Life makes sure that the church gets out to the people in the community through their tape and DVD recording outreach.

"It seems to touch the hearts of people wherever those tapes are sent," says pastor and ministry leader Don Shugak. "We’re always getting feedback from the different villages saying that they so appreciate the ministry of certain people that get up and share their testimonies and sing songs."

This isn’t your typical church. They meet on Monday nights in a rented building and make video copies of their services, which they send to individuals in rural communities.

"What I’m hoping is that there is going to be a huge revival among our Native people here in Alaska," says Don.

These taped services provide an avenue of ministry to native people who may not have even one church in their small villages. For others, Anchorage Native New Life has become a kind of extended church family.

"Somebody will walk up to you and grab you and say, ‘Hey, I know you! You’re on the Monday nights. Every time we get the tapes, we see you.’ And they just start praising the Lord right there," says Don. "We’ve have people tell us they’ve collected all these tapes for years and years and what they’ll do is they’ll get these tapes and go take them to another village and let somebody there pass those tapes out to other people."

The 700 Club commends this church for ministering to the unreached people of Alaska through a unique method of spreading the gospel.
