CHURCH OF THE WEEK

First Baptist Church of Nashville: Brown Bag Church

CBN.comFirst Baptist Church of Nashville, Tennessee has been a downtown landmark for more than 180 years. It’s a beautiful old church with great ideas like its Thursday Business Lunch.

Hundreds of downtown workers gather each week for a great meal and an inspirational message.

At the Thursday Business Lunch they hear the Word of God and enjoy the fellowship of friends.

Pastor Frank Lewis says, “Nashville has changed. It’s changed in a very positive way. Twenty years ago you wouldn’t want to come downtown, but now people are rushing to buy these condos and to work downtown. So, it’s a great opportunity for us to share the gospel with a whole new generation.”

One frequent visitor says, “A lot of us can’t attend our own churches during the middle of the week. So, this is our midweek fellowship. He always gives us a Word to take back: be kind to your co-worker; be kind to the person that you’re talking to on the phone. So, it just helps you get through a tough day.”

“I try to make it a very non-threatening devotional atmosphere,” says Pastor Frank. “What we’ve discovered is that people will invite a lost co-worker to come to lunch with them and this serves as an invitation for them to share the gospel later.”

“I basically come here for the fellowship, and I enjoy the music,” says another visitor. “The pastor gives a sermonette. It’s short, but it still has a big impact on me.”

Congratulations to First Baptist Church of Nashville for being America’s Church of the Week!
