Recently members of Living Word Community Church of Red Lion, Pennsylvania, adopted a village halfway across the world in Ethiopia. Pastor Steve Almquist explains their mission.
“Our vision is to help the churches there,” says Pastor Steve, “to help the schools there, to help the medical climate among the people there. Part of that is working with people with AIDS. Lastly, see what we can do to help the economy.”
Sendafa, Ethiopia, has a population of about 10,000. So far the church has sent two mission teams to the town.
“We worked in the school with children teaching English. We just walked around trying to love on people.”
Ten doctors and nurses held a medical clinic for five days. For many, it was the first time they had ever seen a doctor.
“We saw on the medical side about 1400 patients,” Pastor Steve says. “Our ultimate goal is to demonstrate the compassion of Christ to this village of Sendafa."
