Dr. James Levine, MD, PhD


CBN.com JAMES LEVINE, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona.

He is the author of The Blue Notebook and Bingo’s Run.
 
Dr. Levine, a graduate of the Royal Free Hospital in London and a Scholar at the University of Cambridge, holds the Mayo Clinic Richard Emslander Chairs in Nutrition and in Metabolism. He is a Professor of Physiology and a Professor of Bioengineering.
 
Dr. Levine is an internationally renowned expert in obesity. He has authored 10-dozen scientific papers, Federal expert opinions, and the non-fiction work Move a Little, Lose a Lot (Random House, 2009). He has published articles in Science, Nature, the New England Journal of Medicine, and Lancet.

Dr. Levine lectures around the world and is a senior scientific advisor to the U.S. government, United Nations, and the Government of the Peoples Republic of China as well as throughout Africa and in Jamaica. He is a designated ‘Expert’ to the United Nations, National Institute for Health, and the National Science Foundation. He is an invitee to the Presidents Panel. He is an editor at the journal Diabetes.

Articles have appeared based on Dr. Levine’s work in national newspapers and magazines - Time, The Daily Telegraph, USA Today, US News, Newsweek, New York Times, The London Times, Washington Post, and media in countries as diverse as China, India, Japan, and Poland. Dr. Levine has been profiled in the New York Times and USA Today. Dr. Levine has been interviewed by CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, BBC, Fox, and channels in Russia, Australia, and the Far East. He has completed five documentaries for the Discovery Channel, ABC, and the BBC.

Professor Levine has received over 50 national and international awards in science including the Judson Daland prize from the American Philosophical Society. He holds several NIH and other federal grants. His Treadmill Desk won the “Invention of the Future” award from NASA, “The Innovation of Year Award” at the World Trade Fare and currently is sold by Steelcase. The Mayo-based company he founded called, Muve Incorporated, won the Business Innovation and New Company of Year Awards in 2007.
