Mike Evans: The Battle for Israel's Survival

By The 700 Club

Dr. Mike Evans is an award-winning producer, having produced 18 documentaries in Israel, many of which earned him Excellence in Media Angel awards.  He has served as a confidant to leaders in the Middle East for more than 20 years. Mike is a member of the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.  For more than three decades, he has covered strategic events worldwide, such as the Middle East Peace Conference in Madrid and the 43rd General Assembly of the United Nations’ specially convened session in Geneva. As an advisor to Prime Minister Menachem Begin, he recommended Benjamin Netanyahu for his first government post. His recommendation followed a meeting with the future prime minister after his brother, Jonathan, had been shot in the back while leading the raid on Entebbe in Uganda.  Netanyahu is now serving his second term as prime minister of Israel.

He most recently covered the International UN Conference on Afghanistan in The Hague, Netherlands, and the Durban Review Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.  Mike arranged an exclusive interview on FoxNews Network with Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during the 65th U.N. General Assembly in New York City in September 2010. The interview was conducted by Eric Shawn of Fox News.  “After initiating the interview with FoxNews, I ripped a page from the Bible in Daniel Chapter 5 where it says, “You were weighed in the balance and found wanting, and I circled the scripture.   I put that page in Ahmadinejad’s hand when I shook it,” says Mike.  “I prayed, I bind that spirit in you in the name of Jesus, out loud.  I am the only Jew who has ever met with the President of Iran.”  He says many enemies of the Jewish state want nothing less than the complete destruction of Israel and are using the demand for Palestinian statehood as a step toward reaching that goal.  Mike says many of the friends of Israel have abandoned them and have grown weary of the decades-long struggle for survival that Israel has endured.

Mike says it is important to pray for Israel.  He has founded dozens of pro-Israel enterprises such as the Jerusalem Prayer Team, Churches United with Israel, Lovers of Israel, the Evangelical Israel Friendship Council, the Evangelical Israel Prayer Breakfast.  The Jerusalem Prayer Team is the largest prayer organization in the world and operates in 180 countries.  He says that the longest running prayer meeting in a home for Israel took place in the home of Corrie ten Boom.  “The prayer meeting took place every day in that home for 100 years for Jewish people.  That meeting cost them their lives,” says Mike.  Mike purchased and restored the home of Corrie ten Boom in 1993 and serves as Chairman of the Board .  The home is open as a Holocaust museum that tells the story of the family that housed, fed and found safe houses for more than 800 Jews.  They were betrayed by informants and sent to concentration camps where most of them died except Corrie.  The Corrie ten Boom Fellowship continues in the traditon of the ten Boom family by continuing to pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

Mike says in order to win the battle for Israel’s survival, every child of God must fight this battle in prayer.  “This is a spirit battle led by Satan himself,” he says.  Mike says PM Netanyahu is desperately struggling to defend Israel against the weight of the world.  He reminds us that the Lord pronounced a curse on those who curse Jerusalem.  Every nation in history that has lifted their hand against Israel has been cursed.  “God has judged all of them rightly,” says Mike.  “Most of them either don’t exist today or have been weakened beyond comprehension.”

Mike was born in Springfield, Massachusetts to a non-practicing Jewish mother.  “The first time I ever prayed was when my father strangled me and left me to die in my own vomit,” says Mike, then 11.  He says the Lord assured him of His love and promised Mike he would be used by God.  Mike wanted to share the story about his troubled alcoholic father with his children and grandchildren.  “People begged me to tell the story,” says Mike.  “I struggled through it; it was the hardest book I ever wrote because as I wrote it, I was reliving it.”
