CWNews: The Global Day of Prayer Meets the Digital Revolution

June 6, 2006

Global Day of Prayer

During this year’s Global Day of Prayer event on June 6, millions of Christians in more than 200 nations held a ‘virtual worship’ service thanks to the wonder of the World Wide Web. They did it by combing traditional broadcast and Internet technology to help create a Global Village of prayer crossing continents and oceans.

Christian TV producers filmed and produced news reports about their local GDOP gatherings. Then, using digital and broadband technology, they sent those reports through the Internet to GDOP organizers, for rebroadcast by satellite to the U.S. and the world from their celebration at Reunion Arena in Dallas.

So less than 24 hours after Christians in Taiwan finished their GDOP event, their brothers and sisters in cities across the world virtually ‘joined with them in prayer and worship’ as they watched their celebration of praise and petition.

So not only can we take heart in the great outpouring of praise and worship that took place on that day, but also marvel at how the church, even in developing nations, is harnessing the latest technologies to bring about global unity and tell of the great things God is doing in the world.
