Five Films for the Romantic in You

By Hannah Goodwyn
CBN.com Senior Producer

CBN.com - Not all romantic comedies and love story dramas are created equal. In fact, it can be tricky trying to find a movie you've not seen that focuses more on defining what love means rather than showing risque bedroom scenes.

In honor of this Valentine’s Day, here’s a list of classic romantic movies that are good, relatively clean fun.

Sense and Sensibility posterSense and Sensibility (1995)

Jane Austen was the queen of romantic fiction. Her first work, Sense and Sensibility, was made into a critically acclaimed film starring Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Hugh Grant and Alan Rickman. Though Pride & Prejudice is a close rival, Sense and Sensibility will capture your heart.

Rated: PG

Bringing Up Baby posterBringing Up Baby (1938)

Let's talk comedy. Bringing Up Baby, starring Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn, is a top-notch romantic comedy. Focused on getting a hefty donation for his museum, Grant's character is hilariously bothered by an overwhelming heiress (Hepburn) and her pet leopard named Baby.

Rated: G

Sabrina posterSabrina (1954)

A ladies man, David Larrabee (William Holden) doesn't notice the doting chauffeur's daughter (Audrey Hepburn) until she returns to the family's estate after a trip abroad. In an effort to disrupt the affair, David's elder brother (Humphrey Bogart) attempts to woo her away.

Rated: PG

It Happened One Night posterIt Happened One Night (1934)

Socialite Ellie Andrews (Claudette Colbert) leaves her powerful father to get married. On the run, she meets Peter Warne (Clark Gable), a reporter who is secretly trying to get her exclusive story. This black and white is simply one of the best.

Rated: Unrated

Ever After posterEver After: A Cinderella Story (1998)

Drew Barrymore and Dougray Scott star in this retelling of the Cinderella story. Ever After is touted as what really happened to the mistreated girl and her prince charming. It's sweet, funny and inspiring. It's the perfect fairy tale film for any romantic.

Rated: PG (The DVD version was slightly edited, making it PG.)
