Larry Martelli and The Last Straw

– After 17 years of working in sales for a frozen foods company, Larry Martelli lost everything when the company closed its doors.
"It just leaves you really wondering what can you count on," Larry says. "I counted on that, and as it turned out, and as it turned out, it was gone."
Things got worse when Larry took a lower paying job and started paying his credit cards with other credit cards.
"The worse sign is paying a credit card bill with another credit card bill. These are things that I never thought in a million years would happen to me."
The growing debt destroyed his finances and his marriage.
"Shortly after that, my wife left," he confesses. "That was probably the last straw.
"One day I was just flipping through channels and The 700 Club came on."
Larry watched as people just like him shared how Jesus Christ had changed their lives.
"So I said, 'Why not.' It seemed to work for those folks on there, so I gave my heart to the Lord on that day."
For the first time in a long time, Larry had hope. He kept watching The 700 Club.
He learned how people were blessed financially because they had learned how to give.
"At that time I couldn’t pay my bills," he says. But as Larry continued to watch the program, he heard God speaking to him about giving. Larry was down to his last $50.
"The Lord prompted my heart to give 50 dollars," he says. "Something told me [to] just to go ahead and do it anyways. And so I did."
Larry held his breathe and sent the check in to CBN.
He recalls, "As time went on, I wasn’t making anymore money, but somehow --- and I really can’t explain it -- the bills were getting paid."
Larry eventually found a new job in sales, which he says “appeared out of the blue.” After just one month on the job, Larry set a new sales record for the company.
"I just started experiencing financial blessings, blessings of all sorts one right after the other."
Larry, who thought a $50 gift to CBN would break him, is now living debt-free. He’s become a member of CBN’s Chairman’s Circle, and he’s engaged to be married. Larry’s confident in the lessons he learned — beginning with that first gift just seven years ago.
"To tithe and give offerings was the way to go," he says. "It doesn’t make any sense in the natural when you have no money [to] give your last $50 away. I mean, you can’t do that. But I did and from there things just took off."
