tobyMac Brings Concert to Thousands on June 16th in Virtual World of Whyville


CBN.comNASHVILLE, TN.... May 30, 2007... As tobyMac’s latest hit record Portable Sounds continues to be a top 10 best-seller, and as he hits the road for all the major summer festivals, he is coming to towns all across the U.S. live at the virtual world for teen and pre-teen girls and boys, with more than two million "citizens" -- Whyville.com.  Thousands will be able to  catch tobyMac live in concert when he appears at Whyville's Greek Theatre, featuring songs from his new CD and a few of his old favorites too.  

The pre-concert festivities, concert and after-party will take place in Whyville, http://www.whyville.com, Saturday June 16th from 1-3:30pm PST. Fans can join the pre-party starting at 1 pm PST in Whyville, and should register for a free account early (if you’re under 13, be sure to check with your parents and get their permission). Whyville is a virtual world for teen and pre-teen girls and boys, with more than 2-million "citizens" who come from all over the world to chat, learn, create, and have fun together.  Whyville has places to go, things to do, and of course, people to see. Whyville has its own beach, car dealership, disco, mall, museum, City Hall newspaper, Senators, its own, its own suburbia, and even its own economy.  Citizens of Whyville earn "clams" by starting a business or playing games. There is so much more to tell you, so you will have to join to find out the rest.  
 
Also coming soon, fans will be able to check out tobyMac’s new music video for the song “Boomin’’, filmed in LA recently and is in post production.  tobyMac is also continuing to get unprecedented support from radio. Two weeks before the add date, tobyMac’s second single “I’m for You” debuted on the R&R AC Indicator chart at #27. “I’m for You” captured the #15 spot on the CHR chart after only 3 weeks.

The tobyMac fan video contest in which fans will create a video for a song from “Portable Sounds” is also currently underway.  The winning video will be premiered on the JumboTron before Toby’s set at Creation Festival Northwest on July 28. The winner will receive a trip for two to Creation NW to meet Toby and see the video premiere and other prizes (detailed on the next page). Three honorable mentions will receive a 30GB iPod and an autographed copy of Portable Sounds.

Portable Sounds debuted on the Billboard Top 200 chart at No. 10 and No. 1 on SoundScan Contemporary Christian Overall chart, marking this his highest solo career debut selling 50,645 units. Ringing true to the title and tobyMac’s intent on making this project “portable” for the masses, 14 % of street week numbers were from digital sales landing at No. 4 on the Billboard Digital Sales chart. Also during street week, Portable Sounds broke into the Top 10 overall albums on iTunes.  Prior to street week, tobyMac’s retail single “Made to Love” debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot Singles chart and remains in the Top 5.  This single also topped the SoundScan Christian Digital Track chart.  

tobyMac released his solo debut (Momentum 2001) followed by the critically acclaimed Welcome to Diverse City (2004), which both releases received GRAMMY nominations, and most recently both were awarded RIAA Gold Certification last month. tobyMac is a founding member of the GRAMMY Award winning and best-selling group (over 8 million albums sold) in Christian music, dc talk.  He is the founder of Gotee Records and co-founder of the E.R.A.C.E.
