Teaching Your Children About God

- “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these” (Matthew 19:14, NIV).
Who is supposed to teach your children about God? Who is supposed to teach your children right from wrong? Who is supposed to teach your children who God is?
Is it the responsibility of your church or fellowship? Do you delegate the task to Sunday School teachers? Do you send your children to Christian school, so the teachers can teach them about God?
The Bible says in Deuteronomy 11:18,19, “Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”
Who is supposed to teach your children about God? You are! When should you teach your children about God? Just on Sunday? According to this Bible passage, you are to share what is in your heart with your children at all times.
Sometimes parents are hesitant to talk to their children about their faith because they are conscious of their own failures. The Bible says that parents are the special teachers God has chosen to teach their little ones about Him.
Don't worry about what to say. Be open with your children about your relationship with the Heavenly Father and depend on God to help you. He will.
