Grandbaby News from the Duggar Family

CBN.com KIDS HAVING KIDS

There’s big news for the Duggar family.  Jill, 23, is the second eldest Duggar daughter who married Derrick Dillard, 26, last year.  A few weeks after their June 2014 wedding, the newlyweds found out they were expecting.  Earlier this month, Jill gave birth to Israel after nearly 70 hours of labor.  “We took on everything that happened during our labor with prayer,” says Jill.  “We could feel that God was with us.”  They settled into the bedroom where she planned to deliver with their midwife.  Three hours into the contractions, the baby’s head was pointed downward, but the back of his head was against Jill’s back, known as the posterior position.  This position makes delivery more painful and difficult.  “We tried different positions to move him,” says Jill.  After 20 hours of labor and contractions one minute apart, Jill wasn’t dilating.  “There were times when I looked into her eyes during contractions where I wanted to cry,” says Michelle.  “I did everything I could to not to break into tears.”

Concerned, the family decided it was time to go to the hospital.  Once at the hospital, Jill declined the Pitocin (hormone given to speed up labor) and the epidural (pain medication).  Then Jill opted for both after she tried to get by without either.  Then the baby flipped into a transverse breach position (sideways and upside down) and was experiencing irregular heart rates.  He had still not yet descended into the birth canal.   The doctor decided to proceed with a C-section. In the final minutes, Derrick scrubbed in and cut the cord.  Israel weighed in at 9 pounds 10 ounces and set a length record (23 inches) at the hospital for 2015.

Jessa, 22, is the Duggars third daughter.  She and Ben Seewald, 19, were married in November 2014. One Sunday before church, Jessa took a pregnancy test and brought it in to show Ben.  She said, “Hey, Ben, guess what? Yeah, you’re a dad.”  The couple is excited about their bundle of joy arriving November 1.  “We are looking forward to being parents,” says Ben.  Jessa is experiencing morning sickness.  “It’s getting better, but I’m still hanging on to the heartburn,” says Jessa.  The couple revealed their plans to adopt in a recent interview.  “Our hearts haven’t changed on adoption,” says Jess.

The day Israel was born, Josiah, 18, announced his courtship to Marjorie Jackson, 17.  Marjorie has four siblings and is well-suited for the Duggar’s mega-family.

The family’s reality show, 19 Kids and Counting, airs on TLC, Tuesdays at 9 pm/8 pm Central.  The episode, “Jill Gives Birth” airs May 5, 2015 on TLC.

AND COUNTING

Jim Bob, 49, and Michelle, 48, were married July 21, 1984.  At that time they chose to use a birth control pill.  They thought, “We don’t want children right now.  We can’t afford them.”  Four years later, they decided to have their first child.  Then Michelle went back on the pill but she conceived and then miscarried.  When they talked to their Christian medical doctor and read the fine print on the contraceptives package, they realized that you could get pregnant on the pill and then miscarry.  They were grieved!  They were pro-life and strong Christians.  They prayed and asked God to forgive them.  They asked God to teach them to love children like He loves children.  Then they prayed that God would give them as many children as He saw fit in His timing.  Shortly after, Michelle got pregnant with twins.  To date, the Duggars have 19 children (10 boys, 9 girls): Joshua (and wife Anna), Janna and John-David (twins), Jill (and husband Derrick), Jessa (and husband Ben), Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy-Anna, Jedidiah and Jeremiah (twins), Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johannah, Jennifer, Jordyn-Grace and Josie.
